TOUCH SCREEN

The New language in mobile technology
It may appear simple task to buy a touch screen mobile phone .But with so many feautures, styles and brands available in the market, you need to know the technology well before you  purchase one.Read on to learn more about touch screen phones that may add a ‘WOW’ to your style and enhance your user experience

The mobile handset market has become one of the most competitive markets in the country. To sell every new feauture introduced in handsets, there is tough competition among vendors, who often do not hesitate to lower prices.Under these circumstances,a manufacturer has no choice but to offer stylish and quality designs in order to have an edge over his competitors.
Presently, touchscreen phones are a range among people because of their smart concept, style mass appeal, and functional benefits. The popularity of touchscreen is based on the ability to interact with the user directly through screen rather than indirectly through a mouse or touch pad. Moreover touchscreen phones are more convenient to use. Some of their unique feautures, such as excellent user interface, multitouch and  gesture recognition, are enjoyed by majority of  the users, further enunciating the competence of touchscreen phones.

The Touch Technology

There are a number of technologies behind touchscreens but most popular for cellphones ,personal digital assistant(PDAs) or mobile Internet devices are resistive and capacitive technologies. These have been categorized on the basis of touch sensing methods they use.Along with touchscreens ,touch flow software is also needed to make them work and
Interact with users.
The resistive-touch technology is water and dust resistant but get easily scratched. It can detect a touch by any kind of object like a finger or  a stylus. But unfortunately ,it can only detect a single touch.”Most of the touchscreen phones in india are based on resistive-touch technology”.It is the least expensive technology available in the market.Whenever you read or hear about 4-wire or 5-wire ,you must know that it is related to resistive-touchscreen technology.
Capacitive touchscreen became popular with the launch of Apple’s iphone. Some of the reasons for it’s popularity are it’s scratch resistance feauture and the capability of detecting multiple touches. But it can be activated only with an object that constantly emits electric-flow-like humen fingers.Capacitive touch-screen phones are also more
Durable than their counterparts.

“Capacitive-touchscreen phones undoubtedly offer the best quality. They are extremely sensitive as compared to resistive touch displays have become smoother”.
Further distinguishing the resistive and capacitive technology,”There is quiet a bit of delta in cost in case of capacitivetouch displaypay $3-$4 more per square inch (46 to 62 cents more per square cm)as compared to resistive”.

The variance-projected capacitive touchscreen has been adopted in various high-end smart phones and hand-held devices.”They are highly sensitive to touch and accurate ,besides having long life even after rough usage”.The capacitive touchscreens also offer certain advantages like anti-scratch,waterproof and high transmission rate.
Know Your Choices Well
You may heard terms like full touchscreen, touch plus keypad, touch with slider QWERTY,stylus options, etc, with respect to thr touchscreen technology. But before you decide to buy a touchscreen,it is important to understand your requirement, how much you can afford, and which of these types are convenient to use.
A full touchscreen is the one in which entire front panel display is touch sensitive. There’s no keypad on the top panel.Whereas ,a display that it is in the form of a bar,and has regular keypad,is referred as touch plus keypad.
Phones like Palm Pre and Motorola Droid, come with built-in QWERTY slider. It offers you the advantage of both full touch display and keypad ,but at the cost of more bulk and weight.
“Ideally ,2.4 inch(6.1 cm) is suitable for a touch keypad display ,while a minimum of 2.8 inch(7.1 cm)display is suitable for full touch display “.If you want to type SMSes,you need the letters to be big in size .In this case ,3.2 inch(8.1 cm)touchscreen is suitable for you”.
The most suitable form factor is a bar type phone.A slider adds to the volume and weight of  the phone ,and makes it difficult to carry.
Pixels are very important for the display as they decide it’s quality. The display quality and the response from the software is based on the resolutions and the pixel size.
There are variety of displays available in the market like QVGA,WVGA,HVGA ,etc.
A minimum of QVGA is required to have a clear and crisp display.
User interface or the software that supports the interaction also play an important
roles in touchscreen phones. They decide the response time of a phone while processing functions. The touch-screen functionality is driven by software that interacts with the user. There  are certain semi-touch media phones where touch is enabled for certain applications. The functionality is driven more by consumer insight. In terms of touch, consumers would prefer using it for media phones where touch is enabled this in our semi-touch Aino.
One has to understand that all the technologies have their own power needs.
Most of the touchscreens may noy provide extremely high battery life. This does not mean that they are vanilla. While selecting a touchscreen ,you should look for a model that offers at least 3.5 hrs of talktime. The stand by time doesnot really make much difference.
Summing up,to enjoy the touchscreen feauture ,the phone should have a big screen ,high resolution ,interactive user interface and above all high-end processor backup.
Regarding durability and reliability, the only  way to fix your broken touchscreen is replacing it.So,do not forget to buy a case to protect your touchscreen phone.
Future Touchscreen Technology

There’s another touchscreen technology which is not popular in the mobile phone segment. It is based on infrared technology and is the most sensitive to use.It emits 100%
Light ,delivering high-quality image. Another significant form of it’s sensor output , which eliminates the complex signal conversion and processing required in other technologies. It ‘s only drawback is that so far it doesn’t support multi-touch.Also it is
Most expensive as compared to other existing technologies. But experts see a great potential in this technology.
